Back at Oseh Shalom from Rabbinic Sabbatical

I loved seeing all these favorite images at my synagogue Oseh Shalom today, my first day back from a three-month sabbatical.

More than all the sites, though, it was heart-warming to see a few of our volunteers and staff members. It’s the people who make the community, after all. As the Hebrew calligraphy in the second photo says, “הנה טוב מאד” – “And indeed, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). God says this only on the sixth day, following the creation of humanity. Every other day before that is simply called “good”, not “very good”. It’s the people who make up the essential community and the vital experience.
